Walmart Plans to Buy Small Businesses on 15th and U for New Midtown Super Center

In an move to continue it’s expansion into the District, Walmart has placed a bid with the city to buy up the retail space on 15th and U Street NW.

The 30 something businesses on the block have been struggling to draw foot traffic as of late, particularly in light of the heavy development taking place with it’s neighbor: 14th Street.

Within the last 6 months, almost three of the businesses have closed or faced foreclosure. DC’s new mayor has stated that the Walmart buyout might actually be a reprieve for the business owners and boost for the local community.

When pressed about it, Mayor Muriel Bowser commented: “It’s April Fools day and you’ve been had.”
